Setup: Aura Free — macOS Sonoma & Earlier

In this doc:

  • Setup A: New user steps
  • Setup B: macOS Sonoma update steps (you've already had Aura and recently updated your Mac)

Setup A — You're New to Aura

Follow this if this is your first time using Aura. If you’ve had Aura before and recently updated to macOS Sonoma, head to Setup B!

  1. Download the .zip via the link in your order confirmation email, or order confirmation page after checkout. Ensure you’ve selected the .zip that reflects your current macOS.
  2. On your Mac, open up the .zip file, then the .saver file inside. This will automatically launch System Settings into the Screen Saver section. From there, you can choose to install it for your own user account, or all user accounts on your machine.
  3. Head to System Settings → Screen Savers, horizontally scroll down to “Other”, select Aura Clock Free, and you're done!
  4. To change the clock options, under the same "Options…" menu via the “Clock” dropdown. You can pick between 12-hour, 12-hour with AM/PM, and 24-hour clock modes.

Aura Free includes 1 of 6 color themes in the full Aura Clock Screensaver collection. If you're looking for more theme options, check out our Aura Plus or Aura Hearts packs.

Setup B — Sonoma Update

If you’ve had Aura before and recently updated to macOS Sonoma

To reinstall your new Sonoma-compatible screensaver, you’ll first need to delete the previously installed screensaver.

To delete the old Aura Clock Free Screensaver:

  1. Open System Settings.
  2. From the lefthand sidebar, click “Screen Saver”.
  3. Scroll down to the Other section, then scroll horizontally to find your previous Aura Clock Free screensaver.
  4. Right-click (or 'Ctrl' + click) the screensaver thumbnail, then click “Delete Aura Clock Free”.

  5. From the pop-up window that appears, click “Move to Trash”.
  6. Empty your Mac’s trash.

Once that’s done, here’s what you need to do to install the new one:

  1. Close System Settings.
  2. Restart your computer ( top left → "Restart...").
  3. Download the new screensaver file labeled “Sonoma” on your order download page.
  4. Unzip the .saver file, then double-click it to open it.
  5. From the System Settings pop-up that appears, click Install.
  6. Scroll down your screensaver list to Other, then scroll horizontally to find your new Aura Free Screensaver — click it to set it as your current screensaver.

Tips & Troubleshooting

  • On Sonoma, ensure “Show on all Spaces” is toggled on at the top of the System Settings → Screen Saver window
  • To make the screensaver display right away, head over the preview thumbnail at the top of the Screen Saver window, hover, and click “Preview”!
  • If you're on Sonoma: Ensure “System Settings” → “Lock Screen” → “Show Large Clock” is set to “Never” so it doesn’t appear over the screen saver
  • If you’re on a version older than Sonoma: Ensure “Show with clock” at the bottom of the System Preferences window is not checked — this will prevent the secondary gray rectangle clock from appearing
  • To customize when the screen saver appears, pick from the first dropdown at the top of System Settings → Lock Screen
